The Area: Fuengirola
Fuengirola with its European Blue Flag four mile long golden beach and superb promenade is considered to be one of the most popular destinations for foreign visitors with the majority being from the UK. The recently improved and widened Paseo Maritimo offers a wonderful Palm tree lined walk with attractive statues, flower beds, ample benches for resting, and all the while giving beautiful vistas over the beach and the Mediterranean.Made up of several individual parts, Fuengirola centre, Los Boliches, Torreblanca and Gaviotas the whole coming under the general banner of Fuengirola is well serviced with large and small tourist hotels and masses of quality apartments all of which make this resort one of the most popular on the Costa del Sol for tourists and relocated families from the UK plus it offers excellent business opportunities. Fuengirola is a genuine year around holiday destination with the high season being longer than most and the resort seems to be the prime destination for golfers and the retired during the short winter months. The port of Fuengirola is particularly popular with tourists with a wide variety of entertainment bars and small well priced restaurants to choose from but still having a choice of some more exclusive style establishments. It is from the Fuengirola Marina that sea fishing trips and water sports activities are booked plus tourist boat trips. The beach road has a wealth of local fish restaurants plus typical British cafes all go to make Fuengirola a popular choice for going out to eat followed by late night drinking and dancing in one of the many entertainment bars and clubs. Plenty of daytime action away from the beaches from family day outs to the Aqua Park, a visit to one of the best Zoo’s in Spain, riding around town on "the little train" or via a horse-drawn carriage or shopping in Fuengirola’s newly built shopping precinct which has multi-plex cinemas’ and many fast food outlets. Above the town the Roman castle of Fuengirola is a highly visible landmark and provides a wonderful venue for open air concerts in the summer months. The town is home to the largest open-air market on the Costa del Sol held on Tuesday mornings plus a Saturday Boot Sale with hundreds of stalls where at least four hours would be needed to walk around and view everything. As if this is not enough of a varied shopping experience the Fuengirola Port is home to a massive Sunday market. Once a small fishing village the resort of Fuengirola now out strips Torremolinos as the most visited holiday destination for foreigners a high percentage being from the UK all of which should be considered by those wanting to become involved with the tourist trade and own their own business in Spain’s Costa del Sol. |
